First day and communication glitches

So.... yah.... break from studying.....

I'm stepping it up this year. Yes, that means I will actually read more than just highlights of the chapters in my textbooks this year. I actually plan on reading all assigned chapters (no, not the whole book! What? you think I'm a saint?). This means that I have actually made a study schedule for my self (yes Mother... be proud. Be very proud). I have planned out my whole day. Since I really have no life outside of school and internship and Vin never wants to go out I think this could be quite easy. I was planning on joining a few school organizations but I am going to hold off for a little bit. One or two groups would be nice... I need some friends dang it!

The first day of school went rather well. I didn't talk to anyone. No one talked to me. Might have been the invisible wall attached to my headphones. Anyways... BuffState is much different than Ivy Tech (duh!) classes are bigger, teachers are more educated and actually care about what they teach and the students are better dressed and bigger snobs (yes, I was wearing the headphones and ignoring people but I have gotten at least 6 stink-eye look-overs today and no they were not appreciated. I thought about asking what their problem was but Vin's stories of violent high school cat fights kept me at bay). But classes are awesome. I'm really looking forward to the rest of this year.

Oh yes..... I have new communication rules now. As most of you know I live on a hill in a forest. What this means is:
  1. really bad cell reception
  2. I will receive your text and voice messages days after you have sent them
  3. The internet and satellite go out approximately 15 minutes before it begins to storm
  4. I have slow internet all the time
Another thing to add that has nothing to do with the hill and trees....
  1. I now live in NY state where texting and talking on your phone while driving are illegal (and the cops are EVERYWHERE)
So to avoid any frustrations and unnecessary pull-overs my phone will be off when I am home and while driving. So I can be reached between 9-5 on the phone M-F. E-mail and online chat are the best ways to talk to me (unless I'm an idiot and don't see your message). I'm on the computer too much and have pretty much all the mainstream chat systems available. So yes.... contact me.... somehow.... and we'll figure out how to get this communication rolling!

yay!

ok.... 30 min have gone by... I think its time to go back to studying....

Till next time....

Wow

I've only had one class so far and I'm already feeling overwhelmed. It's not the actual work (I haven't been assigned anything yet) but its the crowds. The mass amount of people on campus are actually making me nervous. It's a flood of unfamiliar faces that I'm not sure I want to interact with and yet I feel that in order to make it here I have an obligation to. BuffState is big on networking. That was a main topic at orientation. But I don't think I want to interact just yet. We'll see how the rest of the day goes.

I'm about half way through my first break between classes and should probably start scoping out where my next class is.

Everyone was right about the parking here at BuffState. It's horrible! And the drivers aren't much better. Technically I'm parked on campus but it's really across the street in M lot - the farthest lot. Thankfully center campus (the student center) is only a 5-minute-ish walk from any campus limit. Campus seems big but if you think about it, it really isn't so bad. I just have to get find the Student Center and I can get my bearings from there.

My first class of the morning Intro to Theater has over 200 people in it - something like 250 I think the instructor said. For once I don't want to sit in the back. I want something roughly front and center but not really front row haha.

Ok... I'm off to find my next class. I am updating my twitter constantly while here. You can see the updates in that right column over there.

I have more to write so expect another post sometime today.

Till then...

And...here we go!

1. You do your thing; I do mine and sometimes we just don't get along.

2. Chores and my relationship is what's been on my mind on and off all day.

3. Remember when life was much simpler? Before society tainted your life?

4. My hair, watching movies and drinking hot beverages are three of my favorite obsessions :-)

5. During the last year I have come a lot farther than I ever could have imagined.

6. Vincent puts a smile on my face.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to movie night, tomorrow my plans include chores, chores, chores and Sunday, I want to finish Count of Monte Cristo audiobook! Only 10 more files left!

oh boy

Wow.... I can't believe it's Thursday already. The past few weeks have gone by so quickly. I honestly haven't been doing a humongous amount... I've just been so tired lately.

School starts Monday. I am so ready for it to begin. September promises to be an exciting month. I am going to Darrien Lake Six Flags on the fourth, Toronto International Film Festival the week after, and then Mother is visiting the 2 weeks after that!

I'm only taking 12 credit hours so I don't think it's going to be that hard. Hopefully the class load will be easy enough and I can add more next year. This semester is certainly going to be interesting.

I hope to work up a pretty solid schedule next week and I will make sure that there is writing time included. :)

Till then...

In the absense of writing here are some pictures :)

mmmm fresh fruit! From just down the street!
My happy new abode :)
The Skyway! I drive this everyday. That white tower is where they make cheerios and other cereals and sometimes you can smell them as you drive :D
This is where I work. On the third floor.

Apologies

I'm sorry for not writing lately. This has been an unusual week. I'll resume next week when I'm feeling better. Look for a post on Monday :) Cross my heart and hope to die

Quite an interesting day

So today has been pretty interesting. And it's not even dark out yet! I got lost today... well... it was more like I took a wrong turn and then another turn and then followed a road until i found a road I recognized. Let's just say I won't be taking that road again! Definitely the wrong road to be driving on. Thank god it was daylight out! And I did it TWICE too! How stupid of me right? It was just not the day to drive today.

Oh! and then I finally got my taste of Buffalo, NY!! There is this sandwich, the Beef on Weck, that is a regional favorite, and then of course there are the wings where Buffalo is the home of. OK, so I actually got Vin out of the house (yes, really!) and his Mom came too, and we went to this restaurant in the town next to us. They had a dish... The weck and wings combo.... yes, I was extremely happy! Vin called it my "Taste of Buffalo" haha! I have to tell you... I can't do hot wings... I have to keep them at the low intensity level.... but they are sooo good! And the weck was quite interesting. I'm not sure if I like it or not. I may have to try a different restaurant's version. But yes... I had two Western New York favorites in one meal! I know... I'm awesome! :D

Oh yah! I thought this was cool. I have The Count of Monte Christo audiobook on my iPod. The thing is just ridiculously long. It is 55 files, each with 2 chapters, and they have to average 1 hour each file. Something like that. Anyways, I got this book off a cheap-o website (it was free for a low quality one and I actually paid maybe $4 to get the high quality version). Anyways so the other day the audio starts acting funny like I have a short wire or something. The sound would go in and out and there would be a static noise. I just kept messing with my wires until it fixed itself. Well then today... it was the coolest thing, I think..... they must have not gone through the audio to check or something because today on file 21 the guy messes up and you can hear him talk to the studio people. This happened quite a lot actually throughout the file and also for the next file as well (i'm not sure if it keeps going. I had to stop listening to it). I am one of those people that loves the movie extras and behind the scenes stuff and this was just awesome! It was an audio behind the scenes! I know I'm a complete nerd! But it was so cool! You probably had to hear it to understand.... I don't know.

Anyways.... I'm going to go be a bum now. :D

Lazy days

So we didn't go to the renaissance fair today. But that's ok because I got to sleep in until noon today. :D oh yah! and THAT is because I stayed up till about 3 am to watch the 2am meteor shower with Vin in the field next to his house. We saw about four each. We didn't stay out too long because we were slackers haha. Only like 15-20 minutes. So yay for late nights and sleeping in :D

Aaaannnddd ttthhheeeennnn..... We have been watching the Ninja Warrior marathon on G4 all day (it's still going on as I type. New episode or something). and I went to go get some ice cream :D. That's about it for today. Maybe a scary movie tonight... I may try to conquer my fear of Quarantine. We'll see :)

As for tomorrow.... probably more laying around. :) Oh! and more writing of course.... I've been doing a lot of that lately :D

Yay!

till next time ^_^

Best job ever and Friday Fill In

So I really think that the internship is the best thing ever! I pretty much work alone at this point. I don't have to be at work until 9, my boss is usually only there to let me into the office and then leaves for the whole day, I am not paid so I do not have to work a set amount of hours, I am free to leave whenever I wish, I can have whatever days off I need, I don't work weekends, and I get to do all this research on film related topics. The actual work is honestly drudge work but I know that it is very important and therefore I do it. Also, I am lured to stay to see the other opportunities that await me. It's certainly not as glamorous as I had thought before but it's still quite an awesome job. I really just sit in a classroom with 3 macs and some couches and copy and paste contact information from different film schools, organizations, etc. But I can honestly say I enjoy it. So besides the hour commute there and back, the lack of decent bathrooms, and no pay I can say that I quite possibly have the best job ever.

And now for another weekly deal that I'm going to do! Friday Fill In's! yaya!

 ffi

And...here we go!

1. Music can be a calming factor.

2. A shower is what I like first thing in the morning.

3. The first thing I said this morning was: "Do you have vanilla roast coffee?".

4. Unknon; it's what's for dinner tonight.

5. It's all been very nice but I'd like to move on now.

6. Cuddling and listening to my audio book (I'm at a very good part!) is what I feel like doing right now.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to relaxing at home and doing some writing, tomorrow my plans include the Renaissance Fair (^_^)!!!!!  and Sunday, I want to sleep in and then listen to my audio book and write some more!

Power outages, late entries, and Orientations

I was so looking forward to posting last night and I never got to. :( The power mysteriously went out last night while we were out for dinner and did not come on until about 1am.

Soooo.... I'm going to do a 2 for 1 post today :) I'm going to post what I had planned for Wednesday. And do you know what I had planned for Wednesday? Ladies and Gentlemen I would like to introduce to you the weekly feature (and unfortunately late this week) WISH LIST WEDNESDAY!!!!!! YAY!!!! Ok, so it's not that exciting but it's still pretty stellar. Every week i'm going to bookmark all the things that I find in my internet paroozings and then share them with you every Wednesday. Awesome? Totally!

Are you ready?

WISH LIST WEDNESDAY(on thursday)
Ok, so I've wanted this for a few months but c'mon its awesome! It's from some Japanese artist Haku. He actually just draws them and they made a figurine of it. How cool?! *nerdy grin*
Omg this coat is awesome! It's wool, purple (!!!), the buttons aren't bad and has awesome zipper compartments! only negatives are that it has no hood and I would prefer calf length.
Look at the pages! It's handmade lokta paper from Nepal!!
I thought this was the coolest journal!!

I saw this in a blog and fell in love with it! It's a vintage Emanuel Ungaro pantsuit. Needless to say.... I'm jealous. Someone make me a copy?? :D
Ein from Cowboy Bebop plush toy!! Cutest anime dog ever! I want a corgi like this in real life! But i can live with this for now :)
And then I found this awesome shirt... but I can not find a picture to upload. I mean, c'mon, a technicolor monkey with massive headphones? Awesome! ^_^

and that wraps up Wish List Wednesday ^_^ yay!! I'm glad I started it!

And now for my events today!

I had orientation for my new college today! Hello Buffalo State College!! I am so ready for you to start! My classes are pretty awesome this semester. I'm taking Introduction to Theater Arts, Chemistry and Society, Beginning French, and Childrens Literature. I'm excited for all of them except for the chem class obviously but its a requirement. Blah. Anyways, BuffState seems like it's going to be awesome! I can't wait for the 30th!

I can't wait to learn a new language! Especially French. No offense to my fellow Hispanics but I really find Spanish boring. And French is just so flowing and the writing aspect is so weird... It's awesome!

Oh and my childrens literature class is going to be awesome. For my required books I have to have Green Eggs & Ham, Amazing Grace, Story of Barbar, and some other children's books. I'm so excited. Hopefully people in my family have these books because I really do not wish to own them quite yet (I'm really not ready for kids).  I think this class is going to be awesome. Hopefully I can incorporate my little sister Marki into it somehow. I talked to her this week and she really seems to miss me. Poor girl.

Oh and theater class! AWESOME! I'm so excited for it! It's definitely not something I would do for a major or career but its something that certainly interests me and it will be great to learn the basics of it.

Ooooohhhhh BuffState! I'm excited!!

That's all I have for today my loves. I have to get writing some other personal projects before bed. I shall write again tomorrow!

bad weekend. bad macs.

It has not been a good weekend. Nothing earth shattering... just not happy to its full extent :-\ I'm hoping that this week will make up for it.

I have orientation on Thursday and I am anxiously awaiting it! I'm so excited to get school in motion. Also, I'd like to point out that my trip to Toronto International Film Festival is only 4 1/2 weeks away!!!! I am so excited for that! I feel like shrieking like a little school girl every time I think of it. :D

And now I would like to discuss my loathing for the Mac computers I am forced to use in my office at BNFF.

IIIIIIII haaaatttteeeee MACS!! I hate the stupid pop up menu on the bottom. I hate that I do not have a right click button. AND NO the "apple" button is not the same thing!! I like my right click menu. I like my Windows 7. I hate Macs and their resizing function. I hate that they don't have a status bar on the bottom of the internet. I hate that the internet is called Safari (wtf) I hate that to open folders you have to go into Finder (again WTF). I Hate Macs!

*sigh*

have a good day ^_^

Makeover and plans

So this is what I've been working on almost all day. I've been playing around with different layouts, colors and different gadgets. And now you see the end result. :)

I've also been doing some research on stuff to do for my blog such as weekly features and other fun stuff. I'm going to be testing it out next week so let me know what you think. :)

Remember.... pink insulation is not cotton candy

The last book I read was: 1984 by George Orwell
The movie I watch over and over is: Hiyao Miyazaki's Spirited Away
I could never date a guy who: wasn't Vin. Duh!
My friends always make fun of me for: my off-the-wall ideas, practices, and purchases.
If you opened my purse right now, you'd find: wallet, mini umbrella, hair tie(s), eyeliner stick, liquid eyeliner, lip gloss, chap stick, compact foundation, eyeglass cleaner cloth, a few pens, pencil, crossword puzzle book, papers and notes from my internship, and gum (haha it's really not that big of a purse but it fits a lot of tiny stuff ^_^).
I'm deathly afraid of: I wouldn't be that dramatic but I do hate bugs, spiders, and snakes.
The one thing I wish I knew about relationships five years ago that I know now is: that not all men are the same. Some actually do care and aren't out to hurt or control you.
I have this secret dream of becoming: a secret agent super model assassin journalist ^_^
If I could trade lives with another woman for a day, it would be: Jada Pinkett Smith
The one summer fashion trend that you'll never catch me in: Willy Wonka glasses
The one food I simply cannot resist is: mashed potatoes (yum!!)
You'd be shocked to find that I: don't miss be home (but I do miss my mommy)
On a random Saturday afternoon, I can most likely be found: lounging around probably... either on reading or on the computer... and probably trying to convince vin we should go do something (lol)
The best advice I've ever received was: You'll never get anywhere in life if you don't try
The biggest problem facing our country today is: stupidity

Copy and paste

Day 2 of internship consisted of lots of copying and pasting. And a bathroom experience you could add to Stephen King's IT. AND a giant wasp. It wasn't so hot this time thank god! But yah... nothing too exciting at BNFF today.

I've had a bit of a depression sneak up on me. I don't know if it snuck up... It just came very slowly. I think it's just because of the change and the new. I'm not homesick. I just can't seem to find a niche yet. I hate not having a niche! It's gonna get worse when school starts. Hopefully not too bad though and I think the trip to Toronto will help it alot.

Mom told me she's coming in September! That will be great. She'll be here for Homecoming weekend so we can check out the college team together. I've been to a few high school football games before but never a college or even a pro game. Mom's never even been to a live game before. It'll be an experience for sure. I think Marki will be coming too.

Just a few more weeks till school starts. Orientation is next Thursday and my schedule should be finalized by then. I'll let you guys know what classes I'm taking then. I'm so excited for the year to start. Like I said before I'm a little nervous but I think everything will be ok.

Well I'm off... see you tomorrow! yay for the weekend off!!

Day 1 of Internship

So today was  my first day as an intern. And guess what I did? I called too many companies for sponsorship while drowning in my own sweat on the top floor of an old school. And it was awesome! I got to talk to the PR agents of some of the top companies in America. I also got to talk to idiots. But mostly... I had a blast! I was alone most of the day. I think I'm the only one that signed up for this internship. I have yet to see another person besides Mr. Cowell, the founder. I know there is one other person but she is currently away. But, really, I think I'm the only intern. It's weird. But yes! It was awesome! And I'm exhausted from it! I came home, took a shower, watched some tv, and then took a quick nap. *sigh*

Same thing tomorrow I think. I am supposed to be getting an e-mail and I might be setting up sponsorship packets but I can't think of what else I could be doing. I kind of want to get into this grant writing. They are going to need it. And I would love to see what it's like. Well... all in all today was awesome despite the horrible heat.

Maybe I'll post some pictures tomorrow to show you guys where I work.  ^_^

Adios!

oh em gee!! Internship!!

I had an interview this morning for the Buffalo Niagara Film Festival. This is a local festival that is going on its fifth year. They host a lot of independent films and (I believe) this year those films will be eligible to go onto the Oscars. I will basically be doing marketing and whatever else I can do. the founder said that if I wanted to do some of the PR writing later on that I could do that too. I will also have the opportunity to go to meetings with him to see the process of everything. Also!! Gordy Hoffman, the screenwriter brother of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, is going to be hosting a screenwriting workshop and I will have the opportunity to attend!!

The location we're working out of is an hour's drive but it's really not that bad (we'll see about that in winter). Also this is not a paying internship. I will be able to get a percentage of any sponsorship that I bring in but no set pay. I was a little apprehensive about this but when I was told of all the opportunities this would give me there was no way I was going to pass up this opportunity. Hopefully it's not too much grudge work. I'm so excited!!

I'm going to work this till school starts, work through a few weeks of school, and then think about getting another job to supplement some income. :)

So now this blog will include my BNFF adventures as well!! yay!!

My First Post!!

Hi everyone!

I drove into Buffalo, NY yesterday and today is my first full day living in Buffalo. I am here for the next few years with a few occasional breaks to go home. I will be attending Buffalo State College in pursuit of the Writing BA. Right now, I am living with my boyfriend of 2 1/2 years, Vin, and his mother Leah (Thank you soo much Leah for letting me stay with you!!!).

I start school at the end of this month. In the meantime I'm going to be looking for a job, Vin and I will be organizing our room, learning my way around the area, and some last minute shopping.

That's all I have for now. Leave some comments and let me know what you you think I should write about or let me know if I left any thing out.

Bye!
